As we age, our senses dull and our lives often fall into predictable routine. In my work, I approach the subjects of my very normal adult life with the vocabulary of a child, connecting my life now to my life then. Though I do not believe that we are strictly products of our past, it is obvious that one's adult life is thoroughly affected by one's life as a child. These paintings are about how those worlds mix in an adult subconscious and create a sort of dreamscape...a world where I never grew up, but am actually trying to process adult issues and experiences.

Layers of texture, pattern, and symbolism play big roles in these paintings. I would say however that the point of the paintings is not to decipher them, but to experience them. For me, the experience is in creating them. For others, the experience is in the viewing and applying one's own set of connotations to what they see and experiencing another human beings life in a peculiar way. I think that as people living in a world of mass production and plastic, it is good to remind each other of the emotions and secrets and dreams that give our lives richness and meaning..and to express those things in the most possibly honest way, as if turning one's head inside out for the world to see, whether or not they understand it.

Amy is a daydreamer, a doodler. She is pretty messy and would prefer a reality where she could paint all day every day with occasional breaks for things like reading and cooking spaghetti. Amy listens to NPR and drives a Ford Focus with beat up hubcaps. Her parents and most of her extensive family live in Southern Indiana, where she was born and graduated in a High School class of 50 people. She spent her college years in Florida at Ringling School of Art and Design. Amy has a Monkey that likes to sit on her shoulder when she is painting, a cat named Kitsky that weighs 23 lbs, and a husband named Misha with whom she shares a studio.
