Kendra Binney was raised in the small mountain town
of Lakeside Arizona. Here she formed an
early bond with the miniscule world of spiders, snakes
and all things hiding in the grass. Practiced
in the art of "catching pretty things" She
transfers this closeness with the obscure and unnoticed
into her paintings. Through scenes of dripping
landscapes in which birds are remorseful killers, and
the trees are unspoken thoughts, she displays
her vision of nature, humanity, and the vulnerability
of youth. Her work explores the seldom pondered architecture
of lives draped in memories, remorse, and fragile realities.
"Growing up, I was often aware of a contradiction
between the real world and the world that was presented
to me. I witnessed the cruelties and callousness
of life through veils of soft pinks and candy coating. Looking
back, it's difficult to decipher the two. The
memories are equal parts nostalgia and contempt, beauty
and death, wonder and fear. They are at once
lucid and indistinct. I have used art my entire
life as a means to grasp the things that can't be caught. For
me, my paintings are the attempt at all things
temporary and fleeting and that which I can't articulate.
