Helen Padilla
My art is a stage for my emotions. It is an exhibit
of my reality and imagination. Here, I yearn to stand,
independent of memory, autonomously from my real world
self. Each painting illuminates the momentary feelings
of identity, relationship and life. They define my failures,
hopes, and loves. Painting gives me a strange certainty
about these feelings. I feel alive, valid, and free.
Like emotions, my works are complex and layered affairs.
I use acrylic paint on a base of canvas or wood. In
addition to brushes, I employ knives, pencils, rags
and my bare hands. I strive for a soft and translucent
texture to entice the viewer from a wide range of distances.
As a group, my paintings compose a self-portrait. They
are a composite rendering of my own truth. Individually,
they are pieces to inspire your own reflection.
